A few weeks ago, I got a call that I never in my life imagined that I would get.  I’m still upset about it.  It was shocking, horrifying, and unfortunately, 100% necessary.

My mom called me to remind me to take my birth control pill.

Yes, ladies, it has gotten so bad in Mommy Town that I can no longer even remember to take my own freaking pill, a pill that I took on time with a religious zeal for close to ten years, only to break in the (very long) process of conceiving The Bean.  What the heck happened to me that I can’t remember something so simple…and personal?  And, when did it get to be okay for my mother to even talk to me about birth control?

I think I’ve said before that I used to have it together.  I never needed a list, could remember the phone numbers of some long-gone childhood friends, and would never, EVER, forget my pill (did I say never yet?).  But these days, I have so much swirling around in this thing called a brain that I forget even the simplest things when they aren’t related to nap time, solids, or baby sunscreen.  I can just about manage the regular eyebrow wax, the toothpaste, and the Secret Clinical, but my pill?  Nah, not important (apparently).

Other than publicly embarassing myself, I’m not quite sure what the point of this article is other than to warn you about the possibility of this tragic event in your own lives.  It would behoove you to remember your pill – for many a reason – but believe me when I say, you don’t want your mom calling you to remind you to take it.  It’s a whole new low.

And, by the way….thanks, Mom.  As always, you managed to save me from myself.

Tell us: What embarassing things have you done to hit your personal low?
